Portland, are you still in the dark? I’m not talkin’ whether or not you’ve switched to CFLs. No, I’m talkin’ ’bout what’s hot in the Rose City. Now you don’t have to wait months to know what’s hot, just ’til Friday! That’s when PortlandPicks.com delivers its fun and sassy e-guide right to you, so you’ll know what to do, eat and wear. The best part is its free! Register today! In men’s and women’s!

Portland is one of (if not #1) America’s friendliest bike cities with plenty of paths. (Portland is the only city I know where bikers can get ticketed for violating traffic signs.) There are also plenty of hashing groups to run with - these groups bill themselves as a drinking group with a running problem ;). If you don’t own a bike an are in a 12 step program then maybe the aforementioned groups aren’t for you. Here are a few organizations to check out to get your active on:
Recess Time (www.recesstimesports.com) gives young professional’s get a chance to relive there childhood playing dodgeball and kickball except there is no fifth period to interupt!!! Check it out!
Under Dog Portland (www.underdogportland.com) is another multisport league offering dodgeball, kickball and ultimate (among others).
Meet Up (www.meetup.com) offers a wide variety of recreational activies. Check out The Portland Adventurers Meet Up group. It has 373 members! This is key since MU groups tend to be less organized unless there is a critical mass.
If you know of a hidden Portland activty gem, please, by all means, let us know. We’ll blog about it and let the world know or whoever reads our posts.
North of the Charles River in Cambridge, lies one of the world’s most renowned universities - Massachusetts Institute of Technology. MIT is most than electrical engineering geeks and Good Will Hunting. It’s also home to the hunt that launched a thousand hunts: MIT Mystery Hunt. The hunt always begins at noon the Friday before Martin Luther King Jr. Day where participants must solve complex metapuzzles to find a “coin” located somewhere on MIT’s campus.
MIT Mystery Hunt inspired similar competitions at Microsoft, Standford University, Melbourne University, Limerick University and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Windy City’s University of Chicago offers a scavenger hunt that is less mentally involved and more traditional scavenger hunt. It looks like tons of fun.
If your school or alma matter offers an organized scavenger hunt we want to know. Please email or post your findings. We look forward to hearing from you!

There has been quite a lot of talk about canceling CBS’ award winning show The Amazing Race? Can anyone confirm this? We are going to investigate and will get to the bottom of this, until then, TAR is back for the 2008-2009 lineup beginning this fall on Sunday nights.

High Trek Adventure’s only Seattle urban adventure race is tomorrow and we won’t return to the Emerald City until 2009! So grab a friend, your sneakers, a map and getting ready for a thrilling race through Seattle’s coolest neighborhoods! We’ve had oodles of fun setting up our unique brand of scavenger hunt and want YOU to be able to enjoy it!

We arrived in Seattle this morning fully rested and without a hitch. Instead of hailing a cab to our Capitol Hill destination, we decided to take the bus (hey, we make make you do it). After waiting about 20 minutes the 194 into downtown Seattle picked up all the weary travelers at Bay 2. Once we exited SeaTac, passed the Boeing plant and came upon the Seattle skyline (I tried to picture it without the Needle and it’d looked bland, kind of like Oklahoma City). When our bus driver took us off the 5, I began thinking, “this ride is going to take forever.” I imagined that we’d take surface streets through congested downtown stopping at every light, stop sign and pedestrian; I couldn’t have been more wrong. The 194 zipped by one stop after another driving on a road designed only for buses! Way-to-go city planners of Seattle. I’m totally impressed. Still I wish Sound Transit was up and running today, but I can wait ’til 2009.
Cheers,

Believe it or not, there’s more to do in Seattle than the Needle, the Market and High Trek Adventure Seattle!
If you’re at a loss of what to do and don’t want to search for hours online then why don’t you just check these organizations out. If you still can’t find something to do here, move!

Yes, eastward ho. (It makes sense when you think about it since High Trek Adventure is base in San Francisco.) High Trek Adventure expanded to two cities for the 2008 season: Philly and Seattle and we’re thinking of adding more cities for next year. We’d like your feedback regarding where High Trek Adventure should expand and look forward to hearing from you.

Much goes into designing our thrilling urban adventure game. We must know subway and bus routes, eclectic neighborhoods and “the off beaten path.” One of the first things we look for is a start/finish (host site). From the very beginning at Casey Moore’s (one of my favorite haunts in Tempe) to our Seattle race host site, 88 Keys, we look for it to be centrally located and an exciting place. Sometimes our start and finish are not centrally located, case in point, our New York City start Professor Thoms (this place is wicked cool!)! Professor Thoms is conveniently located one block from the L train.
As our races grow (our Boston increased 150% from last year) we will start at a public park, but we want to continue to end at a bar (it’s more fun that way). Stay tuned tuned for our remaining 2008 race schedule’s host site. If you have any suggestions for a host site, by all means, post a reply or email us at info@hightrekadventure.com.
Creatively,
